The Concept

A product that could've passed for the real thing — behind dispensary glass.

For 4/20, Okay Cannabis teamed up with West Town Bakery on a non-infused "canna cake ball nug." I wanted something that felt straight out of a dispensary — green, textured, a little messy, and undeniably nug-coded. We tracked down tiny mason jars to nail the packaging moment and push the concept into retail-ready territory.

Chef Christopher Teixeira turned the idea into a blueberry-vanilla mini cake ball so realistic it could've passed for an actual product behind dispensary glass. The jars rolled out all April at West Town Bakery, OKAY Cannabis, The Fifty/50 Sports Bar, and Utopian Tailgate — each paired with a secret hookup at OKAY. The drop hit big on social, and guest traffic across all locations spiked once the cake balls sold out.

My Role

Concept Origination

Originated the entire idea — from the nug aesthetic to the mason jar packaging moment.

Creative Direction

Co-directed the full visual identity and product aesthetic with the West Town Bakery team.

Prop Sourcing

Sourced the tiny mason jars that made the packaging concept retail-ready and photo-worthy.

Social Media Lead

Led all social content, copy, and campaign rollout across OKAY and West Town Bakery channels.

Beyond the Drop

Nugs at a not-so-nug event.

The cake ball also made an appearance at the 75th Annual Illinois Restaurant Association Event — a prestigious, invite-only gathering where some of the city's top chefs bring their most dialed-in dishes to the table.

Among the caviar, foie gras, and glossy haute cuisine, our little faux-flower nugs held their own. A visual crowd-pleaser, an instant conversation spark, and — most importantly — actually delicious. The kind of thing people walked up to out of curiosity and walked away from grinning.

The Detail That Made It

The event was held on 4.20.

The Illinois Restaurant Association's 75th Annual Gala. April 20th. We were there with cannabis cake nugs. Intentional? Absolutely.
